3 Planned Projects for St. Johns County

As the 16th-fastest growing county in the U.S., it’s no surprise that St. Johns County, Florida, has several exciting projects going on. Find out what new buildings and building expansions you can expect to see soon.

Burkhardt Distributors Company

This beer company doesn’t have the space to expand in its current location, so it’s having a new building constructed on Agricultural Center Drive. The planned 113,000 square-foot building will serve as its headquarters and distribution center. This is good news for the local economy; Burkhardt Distributors already has 84 employees and plans to hire more workers for its offices and warehouse. Construction already started this summer.

State Road 9B Construction

There are various plans for expanding existing roadways in St. Johns County, but State Road 9B is one of the more major road construction projects. A four-lane divided highway will connect Duval to St. Johns County, relieving congestion during rush hour.

Construction for the first two phases of the plan expanded the highway from Interstate 295 to I-95. With Phase 2 set to finish this year, the workers will start Phase 3 in summer 2018 and continue the construction up until County Road 2209.

Northrop Grumman’s Aircraft Integration Center of Excellence

Also known as Building 100, this aircraft manufacturing facility — which produces the U.S. Navy’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Aircraft — is undergoing a major expansion. The construction crew demolished the original Building 7 to make room for a larger, more energy-efficient facility.

According to the St. Johns County Director of Economic Development, this expansion will lead to the creation of 400 new, high-wage jobs. Northrop Grumman’s Aircraft Integration Center of Excellence is in St. Augustine, the county’s largest city.
