Spring is nearly here, and it is the perfect time to create a springtime bucket list to enjoy with your family. Bucket lists have the potential to get everyone in the family involved, as you develop a compilation of everyone’s favorites, resulting in a spring bucket list adventure that will be fun for the whole family!
In and around the greater Jacksonville area, including St. Augustine and St. Johns County, the region has lots to offer and is the perfect location to start checking off items on your spring bucket list!
For those who call the Beacon Lake community home, there are plenty of fun options for the entire family, when it comes to checking off your bucket list. You and your family can enjoy time cooling off at the splash park or fun pool, racing each other in the Jr. Olympic pool, or enjoying family time along the lakeside sand beach. There’s also a water sport launch area for your kayaks or canoes and other lake activities.
A fitness center onsite offers up opportunities for cardio, aerobics, strength training, spinning, and weight training. Plus, you can challenge friends and family to a game of tennis, or a pick-up game of dodgeball or kickball on the multipurpose field. Your furry family members can also join in the fun at Bark Park or enjoy long walks with you along the meandering, multipurpose paths. There’s so much to do in the Beacon Lake community, you may be able to complete your entire bucket list without ever leaving the neighborhood!
Jacksonville has lots for families to enjoy this spring, but this is a bucket list adventure! Let’s stop at the MOSH (Museum of Science and History) and learn about space, robotics, and roller coasters with a plethora of hands on activities! Next, enjoy a visit to Surge Adventure Park where you and your family can enjoy jumping on wall to wall trampolines, show off your best slam dunk, and get big air on the flying trapeze.
At the South Beach Park and Sunshine Playground, you and the kids can cool off in the splash zone or relax and enjoy a picnic, after all shouldn’t a picnic be a part of every family bucket list adventure? For a bit of exotic fun, explore the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens where your family can meet Bonobos, Guezeras, Gorillas, and more! And as a last stop on the Jax portion of the bucket list, head out for the evening tour of the Catty Shack Ranch where you get to experience animals devour nearly 600 pounds of meat.
For the second leg of the Spring Break adventure, head over to St. Augustine and enjoy some favorite tourist sites. No trip to St. Augustine would be complete without a visit to the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park where you can visit the original site of the oldest city in the United States and learn how explorers traveled in the 1500s as well as how native Timucuan families lived. If your family has never been on a trolley ride, consider the Old Town Trolley Tour to explore the best of St. Augustine.
Next, you and the family will want to climb the 219 steps to the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse for exquisite panoramic views of the area. There are two more not to miss spots in St. Augustine, the first, Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest (1672) masonry fort in the continental United States, and second, El Galeon Andalucía, an authentic full-sized reconstruction of a pirate ship of the 16th century.
Farmers Markets are great places to explore, especially for families with foodies. The greater Jacksonville area offers lots of options including:

While there is never shortage of things to do, the beach is always the perfect place to check something off your spring bucket list. Maybe your family bucket list includes seeing a dolphin in the surf, having a picnic on the beach, finding the perfect conch shell, or learning to surf. And regardless of what is on your bucket list, the beach is always a great option for a family outing and any occasion.
