St. Johns Has Second Lowest Unemployment Rate in Florida

The state unemployment rate in Florida is the lowest it’s been in over 10 years, and St. Johns County is leading the way. This is one of the best counties in Florida for employment, offering great opportunities in a variety of fields.

Dropping Statewide Unemployment Rate

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June 2017 was 4.1 percent, according to information released by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. It hasn’t been this low since June 2007, when the rate was 4.0 percent. The June rate also marked a drop of 0.2 of a percentage point from the previous month and 0.8 of a percentage point from June 2016. The national unemployment rate in June 2017 was 4.4 percent.

St. Johns County Rate

Although the county unemployment rate did increase slightly in St. Johns County, it still has the second-lowest rate in the state. The 3.3 percent unemployment rate is also a full percent lower than the national average. In June 2016, St. Johns County’s unemployment rate was over a half-percent higher at 3.9 percent. The number of jobs in the county has increased by nearly 4,700 in the over the past 12 months. In response to the job increase, more than 4,100 people have joined the local labor force.
